Pastor Steve’s Bio



Pastor Steve Portner was born and raised in Rome, New York. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1982. He worked as an industrial designer for four years in New Hartford, NY, up to the point he received the call to ministry. In 1991 Pastor Steve graduated from Drew Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. His first two churches, Delaware Water Gap and Poplar Valley, were in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Pastor Steve is married to Christine and has three children, Nate, Alex, and Ben. 

Since 1989 he has been appointed as a pastor in churches in the Susquehanna Conference (formerly Central Pennsylvania Conference), including:

Grace UMC in South Williamsport (1989-1991),

Morrisdale and Palestine UM churches near Philipsburg (1991-1996)

Lightstreet UMC near Bloomsburg (1996-2004)

Chambers Hill UMC (2004-2010)

and now at

The United Methodist Church of St. Thomas (2010 to present).
